The Midnight Eye
Does the midnight wonder if the day will come,
Wonder like I wonder if I’ll come all undone?
And I wanna be the one who comes undone
So full up on mystery, beauty, smiles and suffering that I can’t see
Where you stop and we become the only ones
And the future is our face reflecting the eyes of stars
And endless space.
From a midnight eye I can see the disguise
Of my ambitions inevitable fall from the rise
And I wonder how I’ll fill my pockets and still
Count my wealth as unity with the passions that I need to fulfill me
Will always dreaming of success destroy my best
Years and gifts and honesty, rob me of humility,
Just tell me.
Lying in bed away from the daylight cares
I watch the dark knowing a ceiling is there
And the way I’m gonna die is on my mind
Will it be with dignity after loves and lives of plenty, will it be
On a crimson night sunset like my insides
Or the body of lake, cold and calm and separate
From ocean and sky.
