American Harlequin

my body is sewn together

and my smile is a work of art

designed to manipulate

a sly and lucrative part

brightly colored mischief

a bright but not sharp light

I'm made from the pieces

of the life you left behind

but the wit and smirk of

sex and a simple minded flirt

will get me what I need

at least I know what I need

trickster, lover, acrobat or undercover robber

the ignorance of my authorities

allows me to control them, indeed

it is a clown who runs this show

I bought mine from antiquity

with a purchased face of innocence

you can be laughing as I’m leaving

but the wit and smirk of

sex and a simple minded flirt

will get me what I want,

at least I know what I want

dressing in the costume of someone's right hand

sneaking to achieve what is mine to have

wearing the mask of a foolish cunning man

I'm just an american harlequin

a bright but not sharp light

I'm made from the pieces of your life
